For University of Oregon students swamped with papers and tests, Adderall might seem to be a viable solution to the stress of academic life.
But what are the costs of reliance on pharmaceuticals to think harder and longer?
We are a group of four University of Oregon journalism students dedicated to uncovering the facts and raising awareness about the prevalence of Adderall use in the college community.
Andrew Creasey is a journalism student at the University of Oregon and a freelance writer for Demand Studios and Oregon Music News. Often times, at a fervent pace, he will blast through several highly caffeinated beverages in a desperate attempt to meet deadlines and submit assignments. He often wonders, while teetering on the brink of sleep in a semi-caffeinated haze, about the physical toll of pushing his brain to the edge of mental exhaustion.
He also likes to snorkel. Andrew’s personal blog is http://acreasey.wordpress.com/.
Jason Williams is a founding member of Group 4, a student organization at the University of Oregon tasked with the goal of raising awareness about the dangers of using performance-enhancing and prescribed drugs in the classroom and on the field.
Jason doesn’t know much and he still is figuring out what life has to offer, but what he finds out he enjoys sharing with the world.
You can find more out about Jason at his personal blog jasonawilliams.wordpress.com. He also enjoys being stalked(not literally, but at least in the social network realm!) so you can also follow him on Twitter and friend him on Facebook.
Allyson Will
In the 6th grade Allyson’s teachers thought that she was not performing to the standards she should be. They asked her to be taken to the doctor and be tested for ADD. The “test” came up positive for ADD and she was then asked to take Adderall to help her school performance. She continued to take it all through middle school and high school until she realized that it was no longer as helpful as it claimed to be. She has not taken Adderall since she was 14.

Kris Anderson
Being a college student and having been a high school and college athlete, Kris Anderson has inevitably been exposed to performance enhancers. Kris has seen how the abuse of certain drugs has become a growing problem. With so many people trying to gain an edge the issue will continue to surge, however, Kris believes he has the ability to relate to this issue. It’s important to begin showing students and athletes the dangers of these methods.
